Abstract
3100. Romney, H. R., Thame, J., and Fibrous Materials Syndicate. Feb.7. Papier mÔchÚ; paper boards.-The dust or short fibrous waste of cocoa-nut husks is mixed with any vegetable fibrous pulp, and moulded into sheets, slabs, blocks, &c., or worked into long sheets over a paper-making machine. To render the product impervious to moisture, the material is mixed with 2-15 per cent. of resin, turpentine, scap, or size, or the moulded articles may be treated with a solution of glue and passed along through a bath of tannic acid. To make the material as non - combustible as possible, it is mixed with asbestos dust or fibre, magnesium carbonate, fossil meal, whiting, and mineral colouring-matter. For floor coverings, mats, &c., the material may be permeated with oxidizable or drying oils. The sheets of material may also be used for covering steam pipes, boilers, roofs, and railway carriages, or as packing for steam and other joints, refrigerators, &c.
