Abstract
189,740. Akt.-Ges. Brown, Boveri, et Cie. Nov. 28, 1921, [Convention date]. Regulating or controlling.-Regulating apparatus, subject to the simultaneous influences of two quantities, one cf which by itself would produce unstable regulation, is caused to operate to produce stable regulation by retarding the action of the said quantity. The arrangement is shown applied to the regulation of a centrifugal compressor. The steam admission valve 5 is operated by the piston 4 under the control of the oil relay 3. The stem of this relay carries the piston 1 responsive to the pressure of the compressor delivery, and the piston 2 responsive to the volume. Between the piston 2 and the volume measuring point 10 is arranged a vessel 7 which is subject to variation of air quantity before the piston 2 is operated. This ensures that the action of the slowly varying pressure is preponderant upon the regulating gear and the regulation is stable. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the pressure and volume pistons 1, 2 are not connected, and the piston 2 is connected to a retarding device consisting of a piston in an oil brake.
