Abstract
28,160. Howell, S. E. Nov. 30. [Right of Patent relinquished.] Metal tubes.-Relates to means for drawing tubes suitable for cycle frames, which vary in internal diameter, such, for example, as tubes having both ends of greater thickness than the central portion. A mandrel M, having its central portion of the desired diameter to produce the middle of the tube, is provided, the ends of the mandrel having diameters corresponding to the desired additional thickness of metal. The one end t of the tube is closed upon the end m<2> of the mandrel, and freely passed through the die D. As the tube is drawn forward, the thickened portion around the diameter m is produced, followed by the thin portion of the tube L as the diameter M is thrust forward. For releasing the mandrel, the tube is subjected to the action of a reeling-machine, after which it is put through finishing-dies.
