Abstract

5342. Dowler, V. de H. Feb. 27. Spars. - Reefing sprits for sailing barges, boats, and the like are shown in Fig. 1, and consist of an outer tube D attached to the mast A by a pivoted ring or grommet, and provided with a coarsethreaded screw F for operating the extension tube E sliding in the outer tube. The sprit is adjusted to any angle by tackle G, and the lower end of the screw may have a hand-wheel keyed thereon for convenience in raising or lowering the extension tube.
