Abstract
189,624. Mumford, Ltd., A. G., and Boothroyd, A. W. Oct. 25, 1921. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel; vaporizers, external. - Heavy fuel is heated by passing it through a flattened coil pipe 4 situated in an exhaust-jacketed water boiler 1, provided with a central tube 3 by means of which it is heated at starting. A coiled pipe 13, heated by a lamp at starting, either warms the injection air or superheats steam (which according to the Provisional Specification may be taken from the boiler 1) to be used for starting the engine. Steam drawn away from the boiler by the pipe 14 may be used to heat the fuel pipe external to the boiler by means of jackets. According to the Provisional Specification the fuel may be heated before the engine is started by circulating it by means of a pump through the heater.
