Abstract

Cup-leather overlap joints; stuffing-box joints; with valves and cocks.-In a detachable union a for connecting the ejector of lubricating apparatus to the nipple c on the part to be lubricated, and of the kind having a spring-controlled liftvalve with a cylindrical stem and provided with radial passages n and an axial passage o, the valve being unseated by the nipple c on connection being made, the spring p is arranged between the head of the valve j and the head h on the inner end of a hollow inlet stem g connected to the ejector and passing through a leather washer and gland nut i. The spring-controlled valve e in the nipple c may be unseated by pressure of the oil &c. or by a stem q extending along and projecting beyond the axial passage o in the valve j. An oil-tight joint is formed between the union a and nipple c by means of a cup-leather d, the nipple c being screwed into a ring b screwed into the end of the union a. Alternatively the nipple c may be connected to the union a by a bayonet-joint, slip-on or other suitable connection.
