Abstract

186,712. Burkett, E. L., and Joseph, S. July 6, 1921. Sashes balanced by weighted racks and pinions. -In windows having sashes balanced by weighted racks and pinions, the pinions are carried in open slotted bearings 17 formed in brackets 19 screwed over opening in the sash linings. The racks may be formed of metal, fibre &c. and may be fixed in grooves in the sash. A modified rack is formed of sheet metal fixed over a groove in the sash and having apertures formed therein by stamping &c., the inturned tongues abutting against the bottom of the groove and acting as a support. The sashes are cut away at lower and inner edges to facilitate introduction into their grooves. The weights may be made hollow to allow adjustment by loading with shot &c.
