Tappet gears. - In fluid-pressure-actuated shovelling machines the shovel 12 is rigidly connected to the plunger 17 of a cylinder 13 pivoted to the base 10 at 14 and is also connected to the base by two sets of pivoted links 20, 21. The admission &c. of pressure fluid to the cylinder 13 is controlled by a four-way valve 18<a>, Fig. 4, actuated manually or automatically by a bellcrank mounted on the valve spindle and a bell. crank 32, the horizontal arm of which is forced down against a spring by a projection on one of the links 20.
