Abstract
184,905. British Lighting & Ignition Co., Ltd., and Turner, E. O. May 27, 1921. Magneto-electric machines.-In an ignition magneto having a fixed armature and a rotating magnet, the rotating magnet is so constructed that the mean flux path through it is appreciably greater than the mean distance between the armature pole-shoe faces, and the volume it occupies in revolving is substantially equal to that of a cylinder having a diameter and length equal to that of the pole-shoe faces. Fig. 1 shows a magnet in cross-section formed by boring a cylinder axially and having pole-pieces b, b<1>. The magnet may also be of S, V or U cross-section and may be built up from laminations, and softiron pole-pieces h may be provided as shown in Fig. 3. In a modification, the magnet comprises a rod or bar k fitted with pole-pieces l, as shown in Fig. 8.
