Abstract

184,433. Gardner, C. E. March 1, 1921. Stationary batchmixers with rotary stirrers ; continuous discharge apparatus. - Relates to a mixing and disintegrating machine in which helical blades coaxial with one another rotate in opposite directions in a trough or container and consists in serrating the outer edges of the outer helical blades and in providing one or more fixed longitudinal serrated bars, the teeth of which register with the spaces between the teeth of the helical blades. As shown, a shaft e and a coaxial sleeve m is journaled in the end walls of a trough a, and inner blades k and outer blades r, both of helical form, are secured to the shaft and sleeve respectively and are rotated in opposite directions. The outer edges of the blades k and the inner edges of the blades rare serrated to prevent the mixture from "balling," as described in Specification 182,850. The outer edges of the blades r are also serrated, and one or more serrated bars 19 are secured in spaces adjacent to the edges of the hinged bottom a<1> of the trough a. The serrations of the bar, acting in conjunction with the serrations r<1> on the blades r, assist in disintegrating the material and prevent "balling." The trough may be jacketed or may be heated by gas jets to assist in drying the mixture. Specification 20453/07 is referred to.
