Cone and disc; compensating for wear.-A brake for motor vehicles and for other purposes comprises a disc a fixed to the running axle band disposed between a pair of non-rotating discs d, e through which and a fixed bracket i pass a pair of bolts h. Plates f secured to the disc e and plates g also mounted on the bolts h are each provided with recesses having inclined walls cooperating with balls f<1> by which when the plates g are turned by the members k, g<1>, the discs d, e are pressed against the disc a. Disengagement of the disc is effected by springs j. The brake discs can be adjusted for wear by the bolts h. The number of discs may be increased.
