Abstract

183,204. Weslake, H. April 12, 1921. Leakage, preventing.- To prevent leakage. of air past the trunnions a<1> of a rotary cylindrical throttle valve a mounted in cover plates c applied on opposite sides of a casing b, a diaphragm e of leather or other resilient or flexible material is clamped at its edges between each cover plate and the casing and is pressed into contact with the flat end of the valve around the trunnion by a washer f and a spring g. The casing is recessed to form seatings for the edges of the diaphragms e, and the cover plates are flanged to fit the seatings. In a modification only one cover plate is employed, the trunnion at the opposite end of the valve engaging a hole in the integral wall of the casing. The invention is specially applicable to the carburettor throttle described in Specification 144,785, [Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting-apparatus &c. for].
