Abstract
182,774. Chenoweth, W. B. July 5, 1921, [Convention date]. Current motors; regulating.-A wind-motor comprises a vertical shaft 11 carrying upper and lower radial arms 16, 15, between which the pivoted vanes 17 are mounted, the vanes being feathered as they rotate by a chain and sprocket gear 49, 22, which gives the vanes half a revolution for each revolution of the motor. The chain 49 passes round the wheels 22 and also round a sprocket 50 gearing with a wheel 48 fixed to a sleeve 37, so that when this sleeve is rotatably adjusted by the speed governor 70, the vanes are turned more or less into the wind. The governor acts on the pivoted rudder vane 55 through a cable 58, thereby shifting the arm 38 and the sleeve 37. With excessive wind a plate- 39 swings inwardly and forces downwards a disc 36, thereby depressing levers 34 and releasing members clutching the vanes 17 to their sprocket wheels 22, the vanes being thus put out of action. In a modification the speed governor is replaced by a wind-operated plate pivoted on the arm 38 and actuating the rudder vane 55.
