Limbs, artificial. -A rotary joint for artificial arms of the ring-bearing type comprises an upper arm shell divided above the elbow into two parts the upper part a holding an external depending sleeve a<1>, and the lower part b, capable of rotating axially relatively to the upper part, holding an internal upstanding double flanged ring b<1> enclosing a segmented ring c' secured to the sleeve al. One of the retaining-screws c<3>, Fig. 2, longer than the others c<2>, works in a slot b<3> in the ring b<2> to limit the rotation of the lower member b in both directions. A spring d, secured to the portion c of the segmented ring c', engages in one of a number of V-notches in the ring b<1> to retain the lower member in desired positions. In modifications the ring b<1> may be attached to the upper member a and the ring a<1> is then secured to the lower member b. Also the spring d may be secured to the flanged ring b<1> and engage in V notches in the segmented ring c<1>.
