Abstract
180,745. Wilson, W. H. Feb. 28, 1921. Commutator switching-arrangements.-An apparatus for producing high-tension alternating- current from a direct-current source, comprises a tuned circuit associated conductively or inductively with the primary coils of two separate transformers, which coils are connected alternately by a commutator to the direct-current source. The alternating-current taken from the secondaries connected in series may be utilized for the production of high-tension discharges for Rontgen ray apparatus or for wireless transmission. As shown in Fig. 1, the direct-current source 5 is switched alternately into circuit with the primary coils 1, 2 by a commutator 6, the current traversing both coils in the same direction. A condenser 7 is connected across the pair of primary coils, and the secondary coils 3, 4 are connected in series to the discharge apparatus. In a modification, the condenser 7 is connected in series with a third pair of coils wound on the cores of the transformers 1, 3 and 2, 4. In a further modification shown in Fig. 4, the commutator brushes are connected adjustably to tappings on the primary coils 1, 2 and an inductance coil 10 is connected in the common branch of the supply circuits. The transformer cores may be open or closed.
