Sealing-devices for closures.-Means for sealing a lever lid of a sheet-metal box or can comprises a sheet-metal ring C, Fig. 1, having a downturned outer flange D adapted to be spun or otherwise forced in known manner under a bead or lip on the top outside edge of the box &c., a substantially flat horizontal portion F to fit close against the top edge of the box &c. and the horizontal portion of the edge of the lid, a downwardly and slightly inwardly extending portion G and an inner horizontal flange H to fit over the corresponding portions of the lid, and a tab E constituting a gripping means for tearing across the ring,. preferably with the aid of scores or grooves E<1>, E<2>, to facilitate its removal. Instead of a ring, a disc, Fig. 5, may be employed covering the whole of the lid and provided with a tearing-tab- Ex by cutting along the line e. A packing ring or disc of paper, parchment, fabric, &c., may be provided between the sealing-means and the top of the box &c. and its lid as by adhesively securing the packing to the sealing-means. The engagement of the flange D with the bead on the box &c. may be effected by the means described in Specification 10699/94, [Class 83, Metals, Cutting &c.].
