Abstract
178,541. Currant, E. W. Jan. 15,1921. Fire-guards; blowers.-A screen comprising a number of plates connected together so as to be collapsable when not in use, is fitted to the top member of a fire grate. The screen may be used as a fire-guard or as a blower. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the plate. b is fixed to the top bar e of the .grate, and hinged to it are plates a, hinged together. The lowermost plate a is provided with a loop h and a beaded tongue j and also with spring side catches k which, together with the projections g on the member f depending from the plate b, serve to support the plates a in the collapsed position. A projection n on the plate b engages a slot in the tongue j when the screen is collapsed. In the position shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the device serves as a fire-guard, while when the top bar e is raised to a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 5, and the screen extended upwardly so that the tongue j engages a lug g carried by the canopy of the fire-place, it serves as a blower. Instead of the plates a being hinged together, they may be adapted to slide one upon the other.
