Abstract

178,231. Garis, A. E. de. Jan. 24, 1921. Foot-rests.-Relates to motor-cycle foot-rests of the type supported on front and rear pivoted rocking arms or cranks and controlled by springs. Independent rocking arms 8, 12 are pivoted at their upper ends on cross-bars 9, 13 secured to the frame, and at their lower ends are provided with pivot pins 2, 3 mounted in bearings 4, 6 on the underside of the foot-rests 7, the arms 8, 12 being so arranged that the rear part of the footrest is adapted to swing downwards and forwards, whilst the front part swings forwards but not downwards. Coiled control springs 18 are secured at one end to the cross-bar 13 and at the other end to sleeves 16 on the arms 12, the tension being adjusted by rotating the bar 13 and then securing it by a clamp to the frame. The pivoted movement of tne rocking arms may be limited by the engagement of pins 22 on the bar 13 with the ends of slots 23 in the sleeves 16. The foot-rests are adjustable along slots &c. 17 in the arms 8, 12. Control springs may also be provided for the arms 8. The foot-rests may be employed in conjunction with the resilient saddle supports described in Specification 112,076.
