Abstract

Hydrocarbons, distilling; separate heater and evaporator apparatus.-In apparatus for distilling or topping oil in which the oil is pumped upwards through a bank of tubes 3 through which furnace gases pass downwards, and then through a hotter bank of tubes 5, and is delivered to a vapourseparating chamber 7, a portion of the oil from the base of the chamber 7 is re-circulated through the hotter bank of tubes 5 and returned to the separator. A pressure valve 14 may be inserted between the still and the chamber 7. The vapour outlet 8 may be provided with a separator 15 to remove liquid entrained with the vapour. The lighter liquid from the base of the separator may be withdrawn for re-circulation through a perforated pipe 12a, by a pump inserted between check valves 14<a>. The heavier liquid may be withdrawn from the separator through a cock 13.
