Abstract
175,922. Gill, J. H. W. April 19, 1921. Screw propellers.-The blades of a screw propeller are attached to a nozzle-shaped casing and a second coaxial propeller is provided within the casing which may rotate in the same or opposite direction or be stationary. The blades may be perpendicular or inclined to the shaft, the blades of one propeller being parallel to but displaced radially with respect to the other. The pitch preferably increases from the leading to the trailing edge. When rotating in the same direction, the two sets of blades B, C, Fig. 1, are attached to a common shaft A, the blades B being attached to a nozzle-shaped casing D and disposed alternately round the shaft with respect to the blades C. When oppositely rotating sets are used, two bosses A<1>, Fig. 2, are attached to coaxial solid and hollow shafts E, E<1> and carry blades B, C of opposite pitch.
