Abstract

175,216. Wallace, G., and Bolton, H. Jan. 28, 1921. Uniting by fusion.-In electric or acetylene-welded rail joints, the fish-plates 1 are pressed against the rails during welding by longitudinal bars 3 which are engaged beyond the fish-plates by pressure devices. These devices may comprise two separate bridge-pieces 5, one or both being fitted with pressure means which may consist of a head 8 engaged by a screw 7 or of an hydraulic ram. The, heads 8 may be grooved to receive the bars 3. The bars themselves may be adapted to receive screws passing through holes in the rail webs clear of the fish-plates and through threaded bosses 14, or engaging forked or slotted ends of the bars. A filling-piece may be placed in the rail groove to secure alignment. The fish-plates and soleplate may be shaped as described in Specification 172,241, (Glass 104 (ii), Railway and tramway permanent way &c.].
