Abstract

174,456. Waite, F. Oct. 30, 1920. Inking-apparatus; rotary machines.-In apparatus for printing on the edge or edges of woven or other fabrics, and which may be used in conjunction with stentering or like machines, motion is transmitted to the inking-apparatus by the employment of a single driving-chain passing around sprockets on the shafts of the printing-rollers and ink-distributing drums and around sprocket guiding-wheels. The printing-rollers 7 for printing on the two edges of a fabric are carried by a main shaft 6 in a framework B mounted on the end frame A of a stentering machine, the main shaft 6 being driven by means of a wheel 10 thereon engaging a wheel 11 carrying the impression roller round which the fabric x passes. A chain 8 passing over a sprocket-wheel 8<a> on the main shaft 6 and over another sprocket-wheel on the shaft 5<a> carrying the ink-distributing drums 5 and also over guide-sprockets 12, 13, 14, transmits the motion to the inking-apparatus, the inking- rollers 4, b, c, d, f, g, h being driven by friction. The chain 8 drives the shaft 5a through a free wheel to enable the distributing-drums 5 to be rotated by hand for preliminary inking-up previous to starting the machine.
