Abstract

173,852. Dartois, V. G. Oct. 5, 1920. Shaping.-A tool-holder for a gear-cutting machine is provided with improved means for withdrawing the tools from the work on the non- cutting stroke. The tool 9 is secured in a block 7 attached to a vertical slide 5 on the reciprocating carrier 3. One arm of a bell-crank lever 11, pivoted at 17 to the slide 3, is provided with a cylindrical head 15 engaging a block adjustably secured to the vertical tool slide, while the other arm is connected to a link 21 through which the tool-carrier is reciprocated. The bell-crank lever has limited angular movement between abutments A, B, so that the tool is withdrawn from the work before the commencement of the return stroke and restored before the cutting-stroke.
