Reachers and long-arms.-A device for gathering fruit and for similar purposes, of the type in which movable jaws pivoted on a long support are actuated by links from a member slidable on the support, has its jaws formed with cutting edges at the ends and the sides. In the form shown, a tubular body A has pivoted thereon two boxlike jaws C, C, each provided with a transverse blade D, and' lateral blades E. The jaws are connected by links F to a slide G which is actuated to close the jaws by a chain, rope, or the like connected to a link secured to the slide. The jaws are normally held in the open position by a spring K. The fruit after being severed may be allowed to fall down the body of the holder. The fruit may be gripped, while its stem is severed, by detachable spring clips L. In a modified form the jaws are normally held closed by springs and are opened bv the pull on the slide G. In a further modification spring wire clips to hold the fruit are detachably secured to the outside of the jaws. The jaws or the spring clips may be partly covered with or made from a material like india-rubber. The device may be mounted on a long pole with a flexible continuation of the tube A for conducting the fruit to a receptacle near the ground.
