Abstract

173,321. Johnson, H. S. Sept. 29, 1920. Force-feed lubricating. -In a self-oiling shaft bearing, the lower part of which forms an cil sump, a vertical pump C is located on one side of the bearing casing, the plunger being operated by the free end of a horizontal lever D located ber.eath the shaft, the lever being pivoted at its other end by a pin D<2> to the other side of the casing and being operated by a cam or eccentric F secured on the shaft. The bearing is divided transversely to provide space for the cam, which prevents axial movement of the shaft. A link E of inverted U-shape, the extremities E<2> of which are sprung into holes D<4> in jaws of the lever D, is seated in a notch C<3> in the plunger C<2>, which is spring-pressed upwards. A pad D<5> on the lever D is kept in contact with the cam F by a spring D<6>. Oil enters the pump through a port C" which registers with a port C<7> in the plunger, and is delivered to a conduit C<6> and thence through branches C<9> and non-return valves C<10> to the bearings. Annular recesses A<6> at the ends of the bearings collect surplus oil and return it to the sump through conduits A<8>.
