Abstract
172,249. Bickersteth, H. Feb. 28, 1921. Hasp fastenings.-The lid 3 of a cabin-trunk. portmanteau, &c. has attached by rivets a plate 1, having at its edges a flange 2 directed towards the front and a flange 2<1> directed towards the back. The front flanges 2 have ears 20 in which is journaled a hasp 4 noramlly pressed outwards by a spring 14. The hook-like end 5 of the hasp can be pressed through a hole 6 in the plate 1 into a recess 7 in the body of the trunk &c. and is held there by the automatic engagement of the spring-pressed catch 9 in the recess 10 in the end 5 of the hasp, securing the lid against opening. The catch 9 has a slot in which works a projection 16 on the front plate 1, and has a finger-piece 12 working in a slot 13 in the plate 1, by means of which it is released from the hasp. The back plate 18 which holds the catch and its spring in position is secured to the projection 16 by a screw.
