Abstract

171,672. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. Nov. 15, 1920, [Convention date]. Hopper wagons.-Relates to a self-discharger such as a railway wagon having a bottom which can be tilted to either side and which is in a force closure pivotal connection with the side walls, which connection is automatically released on the tilting movement of the bottom on the discharge side, while on the opposite side the connection is maintained and transmits the movement of the bottom to the side wall which is situated on this side and is movable relatively to the bottom. Fig. 1 shows in transverse section a wagon ready for loading, and Fig. 2 a corresponding section when discharging to the right. Each side wall E is connected to the bottom C by a separate gearing H, G, G<1>, J, k', k<3>, M, b<2>, b<1>, D, which, when the tilting movement of the bottom takes place to one side produces between the bottom and the side discharge wall E a positive connection acting in the direction of an outward movement of the side wall and, when the tilting takes place toward the other side, leaves the same side wall unacted upon. Each side wall E is connected at the top by a link F pivoted to the end wall A<1> of the vehicle and in the loading position rests in a bearing a<4>. The lower end e<1> of the wall is in a force closure pivotal connection with the edge c<2> of the floor by means of the link H which is connected to a bell crank lever G, G', pivoted to the floor C. Two longitudinal shafts K, situated on opposite sides of the centre line of the vehicle, each have opposite cranks k<1>, k<3> connected to them which are operated by a hand-wheel k<2>. Two brackets on opposite sides of the longitudinal centre line each carry opposed cranks b<1>, b<2> on a pivot B, their movement being limited by a stop a<3>. When the left hand-wheel k<2>, as shown in Fig. 2, is turned, it operates, through crank k<3>, the link M, opposed cranks b<2>, b<1>, and the link D which is pivoted to the right-hand side of the floor and can only move inwardly away from the stop c<1>. The floor tilts to the right about the pivot of the left-hand links D and b<1>, the right-hand side wall opening outwards by means of the link H, whilst the left-hand side wall remains in contact with the floor, as the axis of the pivot of the right-hand links G<1> and J coincides with the axis of the pivot of the left-hand links D and b<1> so that the left-hand link H does not move relatively to the floor. If the right-hand wheel k<2> is operated, the load is discharged to the left in a corresponding manner.
