Abstract

170,798. Gems, J. A. March 11, 1921. Candles, imitation. - Imitation candles have an outer coating of wax reinforced by fibres which permeate the whole of the wax. In one modification, a tubular core 1 of metal, plaster, or wood, &c., is covered with felt, flannel, or similar fibrous substance 2 the surface 3 of which is teased with a wire brush. A coating of wax 4 is then applied by moulding or dipping. The solid core may be dispensed with and the flannel &c. stiffened by impregnation with plaster. In another modification, loose fibres such as cottonwool are incorporated with the wax. Any suitable wax or wax-like substance may be used, and a resin such as colophony may be added for hardening purposes.
