Abstract

Exciting; dynamos, regulating.-A polyphase alternator to be coupled in parallel with other alternators is provided with a rotary field winding, the elements R of which are connected to form a polyphase winding and coupled to sliprings. To synchronize, the alternator is run up to speed, the switching device shown in Fig. 1 is placed in position A and the alternator connected up when the machine is run up to near synchronism with the elements R connected through resistances RD, as shown at A, Fig. 2. As the alternator approaches synchronism, the resistance switching device, Fig. 1, is moved to position B to cut out the resistances RD as shown at B, Fig. 2. The short-circuit on the elements R is then removed and the exciter is connected to the elements R through resistances RA as shown at C, Fig. 2. Finally, the resistances RA are cut out as shown at D, Fig. 2. Fig. 3 shows the invention applied to a three-phase alternator.
