Abstract

169,223. Wardwell, S. W. June 11, 1920. Sizing and treating yarns &c. in spinning &c. machines. The product of a spinning, twisting or other like apparatus, such as a braiding-machine, is passed through a tank of liquid such as size, when used for sewing threads, or rubber solution &c. when used for tyre fabric threads and through a pair of squeezing plates, and is finally dried while passing over another pair of rollers. The apparatus is shown as mounted on a braiding- machine. The cord or thread t is drawn through the guide plate G at the braiding point and is passed around a grooved pulley I on a member H<1> to which is hinged a bar L the lower part of which lies within the emulsion tank E and is twisted about 90‹ and is curved at the end. On this twisted part a series of rolls 0 - - 0<10> are mounted over which the thread t leads in a sinuous course, beginning with a somewhat larger roll 0<11> at the ends of the bar L and working upwards to the rolls 0 - - 0<2> which are not immersed. In another form, the bar L is straight and untwisted. The stripper device P is housed against a lug or flange l<4>. Specifications 12993/88 and 2437/11 are referred to.
