Abstract

Draw-gear tensioning and slackening agents; couplings, automatic.-In an automatic coupling especially adapted for railway and tramway vehicles, a hook and link are pivoted to the end of a draw-bar which is slidable longitudinally in a casing and operated by bevel wheels either from the side or on the vehicle.. The hook 6 and link 8 are pivoted at 9 to the draw-bar 4, a lug 7 on the hook engaging with a projection 25 on the casing so as to raise or lower the hook with the movement of the draw-bar. A transverse shaft 27 operates an arm 29 connected to the link 8 by a chain 30 so as to lower the link to the horizontal position for automatic coupling. The end of the draw-bar 4 is screwed and carries a flanged nut 13 on which is slidably mounted two bevel wheels 17, 18. These bevel wheels are operated either by a shaft 20 through a bevel wheel 22 from inside the vehicle or by a shaft 23 through a bevel wheel 24 from either side of the vehicle. A draw-spring 14 retains the flange 15 of the nut 13 against the abutment 19 of the casing.
