Contacts for electric switches and other circuitclosing devices of the blade and U-clip type are formed with spring-pressed reinforcing members acting at or near the centre on the inner sides of the bent-over portions of the contact clips. In the form shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the two portions of the contact clip a are secured by screws c to the block b, plungers f mounted on flat springs e passing through the sides of the contact, and pressing against the inner surfaces of the bent-over contact portions a<1>, thereby maintaining uniform contact with the sides of the switch blade d. In the form shown in Fig. 6, two pairs of plungers are mounted on the bifurcations e', e<2> of the flat spring e, the bent-over contact portions a<1> being also divided. A similar modification is shown in Fig. 8, each pair of plungers f being mounted on separate pairs of flat springs e<3>, e<4> secured by bolts c to the contact block b. In the form shown in Fig. 9, the contact consists of a U-shaped metal strip a bolted at its centre to the block b by a screw or screws c which also secure a U-shaped steel reinforcing- spring e, the ends of which are formed to exert pressure on the inner sides of the bent-over contact portions a. In the form shown in Figs. 11 and 12, parallel bars g press against the contact portions a<1>, the bars g being supported at their ends on wire springs e<5>, e<6>, which are looped at their centres over the screws c.
