Abstract
167,392. Hume, G. W., and Forster, J. D. Aug. 7, 1920. Clock-work-actuated valves.-A clock-work gas controller of the kind described in Specification 10965/12 is provided with a pair of independent lift valves adapted to be opened and closed consecutively by the opposite movements of a rocking lever. The 24-hour dial c has two pairs of adjustable tappets d, d<1>, e, e<1> adapted to engage successively rollers f<1>, f<2> on a rocking lever f, which is held in one of three positions by a spring trip lever j. The valves n, m are actuated by the opposite ends of a lever o pivoted to an arm g secured to the shaft of the lever f. The valve n is heavier than the valve m so that in the intermediate position of the lever f the stem of the valve n acts as a fulcrum for the lever o and allows the end o<1> to open the valve m. Further movement of the rocking lever brings a projection o<3> on the lever into engagement with the casing and allows the end o<2> to open the valve n. In a modification in which two valves are opened and closed alternately, the arm g directly actuates one valve while the other valve is actuated by a lever pivoted to the arm g and adapted to work over a fixed fulcrum.
