Abstract

165,043. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. June 18, 1920, [Convention date]. Cash registers; operating by motors.-In machines of the type in which a lever normally locking the operating-mechanism is released and the operating-circuit closed by the successive setting of amount and special transaction keys, an idle key is provided for effecting this release when it is required to test the operation of the machine without registering or when access to the till is desired. The machine described has five banks of amount keys A and one bank of special transaction keys B' and each bank co-operates with its detent sector H<1> or H<3> pivoted on a shaft H and locked in either of its positions by a notched rocking plate J' actuated towards the end of the operation of the machine to release the sector and depressed key by means of a pin m<2> and slide-bar K. When an amount key is depressed, the corresponding sector H<1> rocks and through an extension carrying a roller pushes back a bail Q mounted for oscillation on a shaft F'. A bellcrank lever S is consequently rocked and frees a lever F abutting against an arm C<2> fixed to the main operating shaft C and also engaging a spring-controlled disc D capable of relative movement to a slight extent with respect to the arm for circuit-closing purpose when the lever F is moved out of engagement. This unlocking movement of the lever F is effected by the depression of one of the special transaction keys B<1> which causes a plate R to slide rearwardly and through an arm F<2> to rock the lever F clockwise (Fig. 2). During the rotation of the main shaft the depressed keys cannot be released since the shaft J carrying the locking-plates J<1> is prevented from rocking by the interposition of a pin p<3> on one arm of the bell-crank P<1>, the other arm of which is controlled by a cam groove on the disc D. When the idle key B is depressed it first rocks a lever T so as to operate the bell-crank S to free the lever F and then slides the plate R to the rear to rock this lever F to release the operating- shaft and start the machine. An interlock between the key B and the other keys is provided by a lug t<5> on the lever T which co-operates with the bail Q. The key is released at the end of the operation, by the rocking of shaft J with which it is connected by a key-holding pawl U and link U<7>.
