Abstract

164,500. Hoyle, H. P. March 10, 1920. Baskets or drums; driving; charging; discharging strainer separator.-Material to be dried is fed by a screw 16 and a scraper 18 from a hopper 15 through a hollow shaft 5 carrying a frame 24 to which are fitted seamental screens 4, to the space between the screen 4 and a perforated rotating drum 9 carrying a helical rib 10 which feeds the material through the drier. The drum 10 is driven by gear 13 and the screen 4 by a belt 7 and pulley 6. The lower end of the drum 9 carries valves 21 which induce air and force it through the holes 22 and the material. Vanes 23 on the frame of the screen assist this air circulation. The screen is formed by coiling wires 26 round vertical rods 25 in segmental frames 24. The wire is of circular section at the parts surrounding the rods and is wedge-shaped between the rods as shown in Fig. 5.
