Tipping-apparatus; lifting-cradles.-Wagons are tipped by raising them bodily on a cradle suspended by chains, and then tilting the cradle endways or sideways by manipulation of the winding- gear. The cradle is wheeled and adapted to be run under the wagon to be lifted while such wagon is stationary in contradistinction to a cradle on to which the wagon has to be run. Fig. 1 shows the construction adapted for end-tipping. A pair of cross-braced side bars a fitted with lugs for engaging and retaining one axle c' of a wagon, are run under the wagon on wheels a<1>. The hooked ends of the bars at each end of the cradle are connected by bridles f which in turn are connected by pairs of chains to other bridles m carrying a pair of pulleys. Winding ropes from independent drums driven by separate motors u are reeved round the pulleys of each bridle. The truck is raised to the required height by driving both winding drums at the same speed and is tipped by stopping or reversing one or other of the drums. For side-tipping, hooks v, Fig. 6, arranged on the sides of the bars a, are connected directly by chains to the bridles m. The axleengaging lugs in this case bear against the inner surface of the bosses of the adjacent wheels during the tipping-operation. The supporting-chains wrap round the side of the wagon on the tipping side of the cradle, as shown, and assist in preventing the wagon leaving the cradle. The wind. ing-drums may be mounted on a weighing-platform carried at the head of a wheeled crane or staith.
