Abstract
164,051. Owen, J. G. Dec. 4, 1919. Motor-cycles; motors, mounting or supporting; parts, utilizing for secondary purposes.- Relates to motor-cycles &c. and consists chiefly in mounting a single or twin cylinder engine with the cylinders in alignment with the down-frame members, mounting the carburettor on the lower horizontal frame member and adapting the frame for use as a fuel holder. The cylinders 11, Fig. 1, are aligned with and secured to the down-frame members 13 by screwed collars 19 or by hinge connections 54, Fig. 4. The upper frame members 20 and the down frame members 13 are fitted with closures 27 and serve as a fuel container, pipes 29 leading to the carburettor 49 which is mounted on the lower frame member 22. The cylinder heads have ports 18, Fig. 2, for the admission of air which is heated and cools the cylinders and passes through the lower frame members 22 to the carburettor. The cylinder heads may be cooled by forming them with ribbed channels 52, Fig. 4, forming part of the hinged connection with the frame.
