Abstract

162,150. Beisel, W. J. March 3, 1920. Wheels with springs between hub and flexible or non-rigid rim.-Relates to spring wheels for vehicles of the type having bent spring spokes overlapping at the outer ends to form a continuous rim. A hub 10 carries leaf-spring spokes 11 projecting radially from the hub, being bent at 12 on a uniform curve and then reversely bent on a curve a of gradually increasing radius until the ends overlap to form a continuous rim. The elements of the leaf spring terminate progressively short of the end. Members 17, for carrying an outer tyre, are clamped by bolts 23 on the rim. The overlapping ends of the spokes are bridged by plates 24 secured to the inner surface of the members 17. Antifriction rollers 25 on clamps 26 are mounted on the spokes near the periphery of the wheel. In a modification, Fig. 5, springe 27 are arranged in sockets 28, 29 to reinforce the spokes. In another modification, the inner socket may be on the hub, and in a further form similar oppositely curved leaf springs may constitute each spoke.
