Abstract

161,451. Fishburn, R. E. April 27, 1920. Violins and violas; chinrests; sound-posts; tail-pieces. -A combined violin and viola having strings C, G, D, A, E has a sound-post 29 of the hollow type immediately beneath the point where the middle string crosses the bridge. The tail-piece 13 is attached by a wire 24 to a pin 25 on a member 26 which carries the chin-rest 27 in a position clear of the belly and slightly to the right of the tail-piece. The belly and back are dished to a greater extent than usual, and a rib 28 is secured below the bass string C. The head 18 is open at the back.
