Cistern supply valves; closure members, piston.-A float valve suitable for high pressures, for instance in connection with fire appliance pipes for conveying water down mine shafts, comprises a casing a and an inlet b and outlet d. The inlet b opens into an annular passage c surrounding a line e having perforations f. A piston valve g is provided with three cup leathers h, i, j, and is operated by a rod k attached to the float lever. The fluid passage is open in the position shown, but when the piston is raised so that the leathers i and h are above' and below the perforations f respectively, the water pressure acts behind these leathers and seals the inlet.
