Abstract

160,019. British Thomson - -Houston Co., Ltd., (GeneraL Electric Co.). Dec. 23, 1919. Transformers. - An oil tank containing a R÷ntgenray tube and transformer also contains means such as a rheostat for varying the heating current of the cathode which can be adjusted from outside the tank. The rheostat 22 is mounted on an insulated holder 16 and the contact 24 is carried by two ratchet wheels 26, 26<1>. The teeth of these wheels are oppositely cut and the contact 24 is stepped as required by pawls 27, 28 mounted on insulated arms 23, 38. These arms are connected to flexible metal bellows 32, 33, and spring-returned by springs 36, 39. The cathode conductors 10, 20 are connected to the members of a screw socket 42, the lead 20 from the resistance 22 being connected with the spring clip 43 at the base of the socket and the lead 10 being brought to the socket shell 42.
