Description
(54) DEVICE FOR KILLING INSECT PESTS
(71) I, ROBERT JAMES CLIFFORD, a British subject, of 49, Tongham Road,
Aldershot, Hants., do hereby declare the invention for which I pray that a patent may be granted to me, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
This invention relates to a device for trapping insects, such as cockroaches, and killing them within the device.
The device consists of a box having apertures, e.g. perforations, which allow entry of the insects, and at least two trays for holding bait positioned within the box, and a space at the bottom of the box for retaining a substance to kill or trap the insects.
Preferably a stack of trays are provided, to enable a large supply of bait to be placed in the box.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device, partly cut away;
Figure 2 is a plan view;
Figure 3 is a section on A-A of Figure 2;
Figure 4 is a section on B-B of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an enlarged portion of part of
Figure 3.
The device can be constructed of a plastics or fibreglass material.
The trays stack on each other and are easily removable for cleaning.
The lid is desirable for trapping cockroaches, to keep the interior dark.
In use, a bait for the insects is placed on at least one tray; for cockroaches, a suitable bait is sugar or coffee, and a noxious material such as liquid paraffin (which prevents the insects from climbing out of the box) is placed in the bottom of the box. The baited container is placed in the infested area overnight or over a weekend.
After use, the container lid and trays are removed and the box is washed out with a disinfectant so as to kill the insects (if not already dead).
The device of the invention enables insect pests to be trapped and killed without their dead bodies being left visible, as in the case if poison is left on a floor or similar exposed area.
WHAT I CLAIM IS: 1. A trap for insects, which comprises a box having apertures which allow entry of the insects, at least two trays for holding bait positioned within the box, and a space at the bottom of the box for retaining a substance to trap or kill the insects.
2. A trap as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, which has a removable apertured lid.
3. A trap for insects, substantially as shown in the accompanying drawings.
4. A method of trapping insects, wherein a trap as claimed in any preceding claim is used.
