Abstract
159,798. Wren, A. July 16, 1920. Couplings, non-automatic.-In a non-automatic coupling apparatus, vehicles of the type described in Specification 25596/07, in which a carrier is adapted to take the end link of a coupling chain, two simultaneous movements are imparted to the carrier to enable coupling to take place when the vehicles are at various distances from one another on a straight or curved track. The triangular-shaped carrier F has at the top a recess for taking the link B; of its other ends, one is connected to a pivot K<1> through links L and K, and the other Q, works in a slot in the swinging arm P. The travel of the arm P is limited by the adjustable stop R and the joint of the link L and the carrier. A transverse rod D operates a lever H by means of a handle E. The lever H has a fixed pin G passing through the carrier and on which one side of the link slides; the end of the lever engages a fixed roller J on the carrier. The movement of the handle E downwards causes the carrier to rise and tilt forward simultaneously to deposit the chain B on the hook C.
