159,460. Rumpler, E. Feb. 28, 1920, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Cars and cabins.-The occupants of aircraft are supplied with the necessary oxygen at great altitudes by means of pumps driven by the engine so as to compress air for introduction to closed cabins, or, in the case of open craft, to respirators. The pumps employed for the engines at high altitudes may be used for the purpose. Reservoirs charged by the pumps at low altitudes may be provided for use if the engines should fail. The regulation of the pressure of the air supplied may be carried out in accordance with the barometric conditions and temperature. Heating.-The compressed air may be conducted past the motor so as to become heated, and, in the case of open craft, such heated air may be supplied to rubber or other flexible tubes wrapped round the aviator. Control of the air passages may be effected by means of a contact thermometer and valves in the passages.
