Description
(54) IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO ROLL TRAIN WIT LOOP-FORMING DEVICES
(71) We, SACK GmbH formerly known as MASCHINENFABRIK SACK GmbH, a
Joint Stock Company organised under the laws of Germany of Wahlerstrasse, 4000 Diisseldorf Benrath, Germany, do hereby declare the invention for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement:
The invention relates to a roll train with roll stands located one behind the other and loop-forming devices between the stands with a deflecting roller movable at right angles to the rolling direction and at least one holding-down roller located at a distance from the deflecting roller, which holding-down roller can be exchanged and is mounted to be vertically adjustable.
Loop-forming devices of this type are normally used in strip- and bar-rolling mills in order to keep the tensile and compressive forces due to inadequate speed regulation of the roll drives as low as possible. The height of the loop influenced by the deflecting roller is thus ascertained by measuring techniques as a control parameter for the roll drives.
The guidance of strip-rolled stock over the deflecting roller and below the holding-down roller or rollers requires no adaptation of these rollers to the rolled stock. This is not so in the case of continuous trains for sectional steel, where at least the holding-down rollers, also occasionally the deflecting roller, must be profiled. In addition, the holding-down rollers at the inlet and outlet of the loop-forming device must be mounted to be vertically adjustable according to the height of the rolled section. Adaptation of the rollers to the rolled section requires interchangeable mounting of these rollers.
In order to keep idle times as low as possible when changing the profile, considerable resources are required in order to exchange the roll stands rapidly and to alter the replaced stands at a separate location. The exchange, movement or adjustment of fittings is also part of this operation. However, on the loop-forming device located between the roll stands, it is still necessary to exchange and adjust the rolls of the latter individually in the case of a change in the type or shape of the product being rolled. The loop-forming device has always been regarded as an indivisible unit, whose rapid exchange as a whole was not considered owing to its connection to the control device. However, in fact, adjustments on the loop-forming device frequently require more time, operators and crane resources than when changing the entire stand.
It is also known to arrange three deflecting rollers as well as holding-down rollers at the inlet and outlet sides in the form of a star and to change the latter by rotating the stars (French Patent Specification 1 453 082). This solution is very expensive and limits the alteration possibilities to the number of rollers which can be located in the form of a star on a rotary support.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a roll train with loop-forming devices which are more readily adapted than hitherto for changing the type or shape of product being rolled.
According to the present invention there is provided a roll train comprising roll stands arranged one behind the other, loop-forming devices between the stands, each device comprising a deflecting roller movable in a controlled manner at right angles to the rolling direction, and at least one holding-down roller located at a distance from the deflecting roller, which holding-down roller is mounted to be exchangeable and vertically adjustable for a change in the type or shape of product being rolled, the holding-down rollers forming a unit with roll fittings which can be exchanged at the time of such a change.
The invention is based upon the realisation that it is possible to exchange not only complete roll stands but also roll fittings (see
German Auslegesschrift 15 27 756).
The holding-down rollers of each loopforming device may thus be connected to the rapidly exchangeable roll beam or a frame-like support for the roll fittings.
If a change in the type or shape of the product being rolled can be accommodated by exchanging only the roll fittings and not the roll beam, the holding-down rollers of the loop-forming devices are attached to the roll fittings themselves in order to be installed and removed therewith thereby eliminating the idle time involved for the separate removal and installation of the rollers.
If adaptation of the roll train is achieved by replacement of the stands the holding-down rollers may be dismantled with the stand, if they form a unit with the roll fittings, which can be interchanged at the time of a change in the type or shape of the product being rolled.
The invention will now be further described by way of example only, with reference to the drawing which shows a loop-forming device located between two roll stands as one embodiment of the invention. Located between two roll stands 1 and 2 is a table 3 of a loopforming device with lateral guides 4, which are connected by an inclined abutment plate 4a in the direction of travel of the rolled stock from the right towards the left, at the outlet side.
Provided in the table 3 is a hydraulically operated rocking lever 5, at whose end a movable deflecting roller 6 is located.
In prior constructions, the holding-down rollers 7 arranged at the inlet and outlet sides would be mounted on the table 3 so that they could be exchanged and adjusted vertically. In the present case, these holding-down rollers 7 are screwed to the roll fittings 8 in a vertically adjustable manner and can be changed without requiring additional time, when the fittings 8 themselves, or the roll beams 9 supporting the fittings are changed, or the stands 1, 2 etc. are removed from the roll train as a whole and replaced by stands which are provided with holding-down rollers adapted to the new product being rolled as regards profile and vertical adjustment.
The length of the holding-down rollers no longer needs to be limited to correspond to one roll groove if the holding-down rollers are connected directly to the exchangeable roll beams or stands. Additional time is no longer required for adaptation of the holding-down rollers 7 as regards profile and height to the profile to be rolled, if the holding-down rollers
are as long as the roll bodies of the roll stands
and are provided with grooves associated with
the roll grooves. If a new replacement stand is
adjusted to a new pass at its stand location by
corresponding adjustment of the stand, then
the corresponding groove of the long multiple
holding-down roller is correspondingly adjusted.
to fit the profile to be rolled.
As regards a roll stand, a holding-down roller
7 of a previous or subsequent loop-forming
device is attached to the roll stand at the
adjacent side of the stand.
