Abstract
157,789. H³lsmeyer, C. Nov. 11, 1913, [Convention date]. Filters with loose filtering-materials.-Liquids containing small quantities of gases, e.g. feed water containing air, are purified therefrom by passage over finely divided materials presenting a large surface of contact, such as steel wool, fine turnings or shavings of wood and horn, metal' chips, and loose fibrous materials such as horsehair. Water containing air is forced through the pipe 7 into the casing 1 and rises through the funnel-shaped distributing sieve 10 to the double row of cells 6 packed with the fibrous &c. materials. The purified water escapes through the pipe 12, by passing over the top of the conical piece 13 which protects the opening from rising air bubbles. The air collects in the upper part 4 and escapes through the valve controlled opening 17 governed by the float 22.
