Description

(54) BAG JACKET (71) We, COSMOS INTERNATIONAL GAR MENT MANUFACTURERS LIMITED, a company incorporated in Hong Kong, of No. 114 King Fuk Street, 6th Floor, San Po Kong, Kowloon, Hong Kong, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The present invention concerns a garment, such as a coat, windbreaker, raincoat or the like.
One disadvantage of such garments is that when the wearer wishes to carry the garment instead of wearing it it is necessary to carry the garment over the wearer's arm or to place it in a separate rucksack or bag.
Various attempts have been made to meet this problem by providing a carrying bag for the garment which is usually attached in some way to the garment and which can be utilised, when required as a carrying bag for the garment. However, hitherto this type of garment has always been attached to the garment in such a way that it is costly to manufacture, and difficult to use, sometimes involving considerable time and ingenuity lo pack the garment in the bag. It is an object of the present invention to overcome these problems by providing a garment which includes an integral bag for carrying the garment which is inexpensive to manufacture and can be utilised quickly and easily.
According to the present invention we therefore provide a garment incorporating a carrying bag having a top opening the edge of which is attached continuously to the edge of an opening in the garment to form a common opening between the bag and the garment such that the remainder of the garment can be inserted into the bag through the common opening for transport and storage.
When the garment is being worn, the carrying bag can be inverted and situated between the wearer and the outer layer of the garment so that it cannot be seen. When the garment is removed and is to be carried, the bag is removed from the inside to the outside of the garment through the common opening and the remainder of the garment inserted into the bag.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of exampe with reference to the accompanying draw ings, of which: Figure 1 is a rear view of an anorak embodying the invention; Figure 2 is a front view of the anorak of Figure 1 showing the bag situated outside the main body of the anorak; and Figure 3 is a view of the bag with the main body of the anorak stored within it.
The figures show an anorak, generally indicated by the reference numeral 10, hav ing a back 11, two front portions 12, and two sleeves 13. The anorak has elasticated cuffs 14 and an elasticated waist-band 15.
The two front portions 12 are adapted to be joined by means of a conventional zip fastener 16. The anorak has a collar 17.
The anorak is formed of an inner layer 18 (see Figure 2) and an outer layer 19 of waterproof material. A slot 21 (see Figure 2) is provided adjacent the lower edge of the collar 17 inside the anorak, the slot being formed by a discontinuity in the seam between the inner and outer layers of material. This construction enables a hood 22 shown in chain-lines in Figure 1 to be stored, when not in use, between the inner and outer layers of material. The hood may be connected at its base to either the edge of the slit on the outer layer or the inner layer of material forming the garment.
A slit 23 is provided on the back of the garment in the outer layer 19 and a flap 24 is situated above the slit 23. The flap 24 and the portion of the back of the gar ment below the slit are provided with co-operating pieces of VELCRO (Regis tered Trade Mark) 25 by means of which the slit 23 can be closed by the flap 24.
A bag 26, shown in chain lines in Figure 1 has a circular bottom portion 27 and a cylindrical side wall portion 28. The free edge 29 of the bag is stitched to the side edges of the slot 23 so that the bag 26 can be positioned when not in use, between the inner and outer layers of the anorak, in an inverted position, as shown in Figure 1.
When required for use the bag 26 can be pulled out from the anorak as shown in Figure 2. The bag is provided with a continuous flap 31 which may be an integral extension of the tubular wall 28 or may be attached thereto by stitching. The flap 31 has a hem 32 which contains a draw string 33. When the bag is inverted and located in the anorak, the flap 31 is located within the bag. When the bag is drawn out of the anorak the flap becomes an extension of the wall of the bag as shown in Figures 2 and 3.
On its outer surface the bag 26 may be provided with a patch pocket whose opening may be closed by means of a strip of VELCRO (Registered Trade Mark).
When the anorak is in use the bag 26 is situated between the inner and outer layers of material forming the anorak and the flap 24 is folded downwards so that the complimentary strips 25 of VELCRO engage one another and ensure that the flap remains closed. When the anorak is to be carried or stored in the bag 26, the flap 24 is lifted by undoing the VELCRO strips 25, the bag is pulled out through the slit 23, and the main body of the anorak is folded into the bag as shown in Figure 3. The flap 31 forms an extension to the wall 28 which enlarges the capacity of the bag and ensures that the anorak is easily packed. The draw string 33 can then be tightened and a loop (not shown) may be provided on or adjacent the base 27 of the bag to enable the draw string to be connected to the loop to provide a carrying handle for the bag.
It will thus be seen that the user of the anorak, when he is not wearing it, can quickly and easily fold it into the bag so that it can be carried much more easily.
While the bag has been shown as being attached to the slit 23 in the back of the garment it could equally well be attached to any other position, for example, on the front of the garment and the slit 23 could be in either the inner or the outer layer of the anorak.
It is envisaged that this arrangement may be used when the anorak or other garment to which the bag is to be attached comprises only one layer not a double layer of material.
While the invention has been described in relation to an anorak it is intended that the invention may be used with any suitable garment.

A garment incorporating a carrying bag having a top opening the edge of which is attached continuously to the edge of an opening in the garment to form a common opening between the bag and the garment such that the remainder of the garment can be inserted into the bag through the slit for transport and storage.

A garment as claimed in claim 1 in which the bag can be located on the outside of the garment or inverted and located on the inside of the garment and a flap of material is attached to the garment at or adjacent the edge of the opening in the garment, the flap of material forming an extension of the bag when the bag is located outside the garment and being located within the bag when the bag is located within the garment.
3. A garment as claimed in claim 2, in which a draw string is provided in the flap at or adjacent the edge of the flap remote from the remainder of the bag.
4. A garment as claimed in any of the preceding claims, in which the part of the garment to which the bag is attached comprises two layers of material, the bag being attached to the outer layer of material and being located between the two layers when inverted.
5. A garment as claimed in any of the preceding claims in which the garment is provided with a hood attached to the back of the garment and adapted to be situated within the inner and outer layers of the garment when not in use.
6. A garment as claimed in any of the preceding claims in which the garment has a back panel and the bag is attached to the back panel.
7. A garment substantially as described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
