Description
(54) INDOOR BOARD GAMES
(71) We, GEMINI GAMES AND PUZZLES
LIMITED, of 50 Kenilworth Drive, Oadby,
Leicester, a British company, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be performed, to be particularly described in and by the following statement: The invention relates to indoor games equipment (also usable out of doors) for two or more players in which the object is to determine by questioning information concealed by each other player.
Games equipment according to the invention comprises at least two supports each bearing at least two similar sets of identifiable grid positions, shields for concealing the grid positions from an opponent, and a number of markers of at least two kinds for indicating individual grid positions, the shields being sheets of card showing representations of the grid positions, and the supports having slots for receiving and holding the shields.
Each player has a support and shield for concealing grid positions, and inserts information on one of his sets of grid positions using the markers. The information may be a digit or a letter or other indicium for example. Players in turn each ask an opponent whether a particular grid position is occupied in the information he has inserted on his set of grid positions. This is recorded with the markers on the or each other set of positions. The first to guess the information concealed by the others is the winner.
The shields show how particular indicia should be inserted as information. The grid positions themselves may be holes in the supports, and the markers pegs receivable in the holes. The pegs may be of different colours to indicate whether a position is occupied in the information of an opponent.
Equipment according to the invention is illustrated by way of example in the drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a support; and
Figures 2 and 3 show the opposite sides of a concealing shield.
The remainder of the equipment consists of red pegs and yellow pegs which are not illustrated.
The support is a moulded shell 10 of plastics material having an upper surface 12 inclined downwards towards a player.
The surface 12 bears four similar square sets 14 of holes, random ones of which are marked 16, in grid positions identified along the base by the letters A, B, C, D, E and up the sides by the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. The shell 10 also has slots 18 for supporting a concealing shield.
The concealing shield consist of a sheet of cardboard showing on each side a number of representations of sets of grid positions and how the marking pegs may be inserted into the holes 16. At the lower edge of the sheet there are projecting lugs 20 receivable in the slots 18 of the supports 10. The concealing shields are thus held in position to conceal the grid positions from opponents.
RULES
Game 1: Numbers Each player places his shield in the slot 18 with the numbers side facing him. A square is allocated to each player in which he places the number of his choice in the way indicated on the shield.
Game 2: Letters
Is played in exactly the same way as game 1 but using letters of the alphabet as indicated on the reverse side of the shield.
Game 3
For more advanced players each player chooses to play either with numbers or letters without indicating which game he is playing to his opponents. This makes the task of perception more difficult due to the increased number of possibilities.
Game 4
Is for two players and is played in the same way as the basic game but in this instance a series of numbers or a series of letters to make up a word can be used as the formula to be discovered by each player.
Each player uses one playing board to lay down his series of numbers or letters and the other board to check his opponents answers the questions put to him. Opponents should agree prior to the commencement of the game where numbers or words are to be used and the quantity ie. 1 2 3 or 4 letter words or 1-4 numbers.
WHAT WE CLAIM IS:- 1. Games equipment comprising at least two supports each bearing at least two similar sets of identifiable grid positions, shields for concealing the grid positions from an opponent, and a number of markers of at least two kinds for indicating individual grid positions, the shields being sheets of card showing representations of the grid positions, and the supports having slots for receiving and holding the shields.
2. Games equipment according to claim 1 in which the grid positions are holes in the supports.
3. Games equipment according to claim 2 in which the markers are pegs receivable in the holes.
4. Games equipment according to any preceding claim in which the markers are of two different colours.
5. Games equipment substantially as herein described with particular reference to the drawings.
