Abstract
Dispersoids of lakes or other materials are obtained by pounding or rubbing the ground substance in a dispersion medium which is a non-conductor or a bad conductor of electricity, the moving surfaces having a velocity of not less than 1000 metres per minute. Dispersion may be assisted by adding solvent chemical agents, or those which form labile compounds with the substance to be dispersed or materials causing formation of unstable complexes between the dispersoid and dispersion medium. Two constructions of grinding-mills in which the process is carried out are described. Specifications 17729/13, 17731/13, 17732/13, [all in Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], 155,212, [Class 91, Oils &c.], 156138, 156,142, and 156,149, [all in Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.], and 156,156, [Class 46, Filtering &c.], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes a further construction of mill, and also a filter for use in dry-grinding in vacuo. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.ALSO:Dispersoids of graphite or other materials are obtained by pounding or rubbing the ground substance in a dispersion medium which is a con-conductor or a bad conductor of electricity, the moving surfaces having a velocity of not less than 1000 metres per min. Dispersion may be assisted by adding solvent chemical agents, or those which form labile compounds with the substance to be dispersed or materials causing formation of unstable complexes between the dispersoid and dispersion medium. According to an example, colloidal graphite is made by dispersing graphite with hot water, cooling, allowing to settle, decanting and drying. Potash olein soaps, tannin and phenol sulphonic acids may be used as dispersion accelerators. A considerable acceleration of the process is obtained by working under vacuum.
