Abstract

The load-bearing, sound-absorbing structural element has a thickness of at least 50 mm. Its rigid, open-cell structure is produced from a starting material such as sand, flint or granite and of a curable binder. The starting material has a particle size of between 0.5 and 2 mm. The starting material and the binder are mixed in a weight ratio of from 20:1 to 60:1. The structure has porosity in the region of from 0.15 to 0.7 and an air-flow resistance in the region of from 10 to 180 CGS units. The structural element is produced by mixing the starting material and the binder and curing this mixture in a mould. The structural element may be designed as a screen, wall, floor or ceiling. It may be used as part of a building.
